So, I get a mailing to my www.undergroundnews.com email address from some “spades online” gaming site interested in our “US Traffic” as they put it… I go and do a quick google search and see hundreds of people whining about how this company (Cyprus based) is nothing but a scam…
A quick polite email to the (no doubt bot) person who sent me the message:
Upon researching your company through search engines, I regret to inform you that we are not interested in associating our community with your services.
Sincerely,
James Corthell
UGN Security President
I wonder what the response will be?
Ok, I’ve had my glasses for all of 3 days… I notice a smudge… I polish it… and polish it… and polish it… about an hour later, it won’t come out… What is this, a nick in my 3 day old lens?…
Honestly, I can’t understand how people can use this ulta thin plastic in their lenses… I used glasses for years with Glass, not one problem… Plastic? 3 days until I go so nutty I want to throw them through a wall…
I call the glasses shoppe, and ofcoarse the one place covered by my blasted insurance isn’t open on sunday’s; so I tried to leave a message… No voicemail… I finally found the direct line for their optical department, at least they have the courtesy of a voicemail line…
I call in and leave a short message, “This is James Corthell, i can be reached at blah blah blah number, I have spent the last hour trying to clear out what looks like a piece of dust off of my lens and it won’t come out, I haven’t a clue how long it’s been there, but I need to get it fixed as soon as possible. I’ve never had any problem with Glass when I had it, so I need to see how much extra it’s going to cost to get this fixed and how much more it’ll weigh in glass.”
Let us hope for good news, as I can’t stand this friggen smidge, it’s right on where my puple goes, and all i see is non-clearness and it’s driving me so batty that i can’t stand to wear the brand new $400 glasses…
Sad to say, our Dedicated Server is gone now, or rather it will be soon… HostNuke’s moved us back to a VPS, though we have about the same spec’s as we did before, only I’m assuming its newer hardware than the older stuff we had ;)…
CentOS5 as usual, Webmin/VirtualMin as before, PHP5/MySQL5… Email still served through Google lol… Our RDNS should be set out of the box, but will need to validate IP’s against spamhaus and check that new registration emails are being sent/received…
All that fun stuff! lol…
One heartache though, I went to upgrade Gallery to the latest build on www.corthell.net and the damned thing choked, so I sat here for like 3 hours trying to do a simple upgrade… The bafoon who responded to my forum posting on their forums said I’d have to delete everything and start from scratch…
The fix you ask? The versions.dat file was empty for some reason (likely due to the botched upgrade prior in the night), so finding a “recovery” posting in their FAQ did wonders to getvme back up… Took about 2 minutes to patch the file and run the upgrader… And best of all, I didn’t have to purge and start anew… As I would have cried lol…
I have a lot more to patch and upgrade on the new machine, and loads more to look up; so wish me luck, it’ll be a fun task… not like I needed another after what heartache’s this last month brought me… More on that, and more on the server migration later…
Well, I bought the Sandisk Cruzer 1gb drive which matches the stock feel of the XBox Core/Premium system, and I have a standard key (which I didn’t think was working) for my XBox360… Turns out, ANY USB device cannot access saved games or
XBL data…
So, what’s the problem? Well, I bought them so I could copy my XBL account to Walter’s XBox (and vice versa) so that he doesn’t have to bring his over all the time so we ca link systems to play together on our respective accounts…
So, now I have to buy the XBox Memory Card to do this… I found several of the 512mb’s on EBay though for under $20 (after shipping); and I can supposedly use them as storage devices (vs media devices) in the xbox. So I should be able to store downloads on there, such as game downloads, like Halo1 should I choose to blow 800 points on it ($10~).
So, a word to the wise:
USB Devices - Media Devices, music, pictures, video.
Memory Devices - Game Saves, Downloads, Storage.
Well, a fine slap in the face from Microsoft… Turns out that when you cancel your gamertag for the XBox Live service, you cannot recover it in the future… Most people wouldn’t care here, but I do for two reasons…
1. Moguai is mine on their service, i’d have preferred to keep it…
2. If you port your old gamertag up to XBL for the 360, you get a free copy of Halo3…
As I can’t port up, I can’t do the deal :(…
Why did I cancel my XBL you ask? Well, in 2003 they overcharged us, and refused to refund us as their systems “didn’t allow” for it; so I had my creditcard company do it on their behalf and told them where they could put it…
So, now I’m on XBL as Gremelin, but still wanting to take part in the XBL thing to get a (second) copy of halo3…
So, I’m alpha testing UBB.Threads 7.3 on my private development server… A client whines to let me allow them to poke around and I’m getting ready to walk out the door; so I finally give in just so I can leave…
So, I get a message today with them whining about how they can’t figure something out, and they link me to their forum to check it out… Wait, what’s this… Their theme looks a lot like the standard template I use for most of my themes, only the dark version which I’ve yet to release to anyone… So I poke around a bit more, and my hover effects are there as well…
What’s this, no, this client would never… The client jacked my theme, changed the colors, and are using it on their site… No asking me about using it, no asking me if they could pay to use it (as it’s a paid theme), they just blatently stole it and adapted it to their site, no questions asked…
Wow… Asif I needed this today.
So we look at the Qwest house line bill today, $75… Wait… It’s usually $56 you say? Well it turns out they’ve found yet-another way to nickle and dime us… The Usage Fee…
The usage fee charges us per minute of how much we use our phone, we’ve never signed up for this “service”, nor would we… Why would I want to be charged per minute to talk on my landline phone to people in my area code (there is no LD on this line)… Idiots…
We call in, and supposedly we’ve “always” had this… Funny, I’d know if I signed up to be gang raped… So they’re issuing a credit, but their not sure “how far back” it will go, joy…
I find it funny, that i moved my second line to Vonage, and am contemplating moving the main line to Comcast… Why you ask? Because this crap is costing way too much…
We have 3 cellphones, 1 house line, and 1 VOIP line; I have no problem having two VOIP lines ;)…
